Treatments for Type 2 Diabetes
Diabetes is chronic disease defined as high sugar levels in the blood. There are two forms, type 1 and type 2. Type 1 diabetics have a body that does not produce enough insulin. Type 2 diabetics have a body that becomes less responsive to insulin over time. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas to control blood sugar levels in the body. Diabetics can have too much or too little insulin. Type 1 diabetes is generally something one is born with while type 2 diabetes develops over time.
Treatments vary by person and type. The Mayo Clinic suggests diet, exercise and weight control to help in managing type 2 diabetes. However, some people with type 2 diabetes still require medication to control their blood sugar. Medications vary widely. Some will stimulate the pancreas to produce and release more insulin, some inhibit production and release of glucose from the liver, some block stomach enzymes that break down carbohydrates, and some improve sensitivity of cells to insulin. Some people will even need a combination of these medications.
Diabetes, in any form, requires a lifelong commitment of monitoring blood sugar levels, healthy eating, regular exercise, possible medications and/or insulin therapy. Foods, physical activity, medications, illness, alcohol, stress and a female’s time of the month can affect blood sugar levels and should be monitored.
The Mayo Clinic suggests that type 2 diabetics try to eat meals that have the same amount of food with the same proportion of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats at the same time each day. Many doctors also recommend low glycemic diets and at least 30 minutes of exercise daily. The more one is aware of one’s own symptoms, the better one will do at controlling their diabetes.
One of the advantages of the Amino Diet – Diabetes Program we offer is that you can lose weight while controlling your diabetes or learn healthy ways of maintaining your blood sugar levels if you don’t have any weight to lose. Our Diabetes program is backed by years of research and has been used in clinical situations. We recommend a combination of diet, exercise and the taking of supplements to help people control their blood sugar levels while losing weight. Weight loss can greatly affect someone with type 2 diabetes. Most of those with type 2 diabetes are also overweight. Weight loss can help with the control of blood sugar levels in the body and help put less strain on it.
This is a program to help those with type 2 diabetes or insulin resistance to help even out blood sugar levels and eat a healthy low glycemic diet. It consists of an eating plan and the taking of supplements. Each part is necessary and will help you to lose a little weight while still maintaining blood sugar levels.
