To Soy Or Not To Soy

Soy on the Amino DietWith the recent release of our Vegetarian Protocol we have had many inquiries from the soy intolerant. This got us thinking about some alternatives though the other options tend to be higher in carbs because they will have some sort of grain, rice, or other nutritional base that may be a good transition food on or off the diet. One reason this diet does not explore the dozens of products available out there is because many of them have additional ingredients that are yummy of course, but not on the protocol. We try to focus on the basics to get you eating fresh local and organic when possible! Sunshine veggie burgers are completely soy and gluten free but they are a brown rice and sunflower seed base. Seitan and tempeh are mostly wheat based but there are several brands out there some that contain soy and others that do not. They are very high in protein but can range from approximately 4g-18g of carbohydrates per 4 ounces.

As many of our long-time, dieters know the farther you stray from the protocol the slower you will see results. This can sometimes be tricky, as many of our favorite products are not technically approved for everyone to use on the protocol. However, some processed faux proteins may work for some individuals. We recommend experimenting with only one product at a time to accurately determine your results. Some clients have reported more success with experimental foods after adding in the new food when they are established on the protocol. Please note results may vary greatly between individuals and product usage.  “Caution Foods” like quinoa and other legumes are easier to introduce during phase 2 and 3.
