How to Avoid Dieting Pitfalls

Posted on Wednesday, December 23, 2009

When going on an intense dieting program, such as the Liquid Amino Diet, motivation can be strong because you know you’ll see immense results very soon, even just a few days after starting. However, no matter how motivated you are, there will always be pitfalls on the dieting path that can seem impossible to overcome. But they’re not! And here are a few ways to defeat some of the biggest obstacles to getting thin:

1. Be prepared. Sometimes, there really is a great excuse for indulging in high-calorie food because it’s all that’s available. You may have to stay at work during lunch so your only option is something from the vending machine. Or maybe you’re on a trip and there are no places along the way that have healthy food. But if you make the effort to know what you will be doing throughout the day in advance—and even have contingency plans for when unexpected things happen, those excuses won’t be there to keep you fat anymore. For instance, always carry around a baggy of healthy, low-calorie foods that will keep for a day. You can also keep an extra can of tuna fish or chicken at work.

2. Let everybody you interact with on a regular basis know about your eating rules for the next month or so. Many times, it’s easy to give into the temptation of hunger when there is a social situation to excuse the moment of weakness. If you’re at a birthday party, of course you’re going to be asked if you want to eat a piece of cake; otherwise it’s not a birthday party! If you’re eating dinner at someone’s house you simply have to take second helpings because it would be rude not to, right? Not at all! If your whole social network knows what you’re trying to accomplish and exactly what your diet allows, they can help support you, rather than being an obstacle between you and your perfect body. Remind them that the diet you are on is only a few small number of weeks but it requires you to be strict. Remember that sacrificing for a few weeks can mean years of healthy lean living down the road. Just put together one good day after another and you will soon see that weeks have gone by and the results will manifest themselves and pay back dividends big time!

3. Measure your success often. Even when you’re very serious about losing weight, discouragement can defeat your motivation. And the best way to avoid discouragement is to track your progress, so you can see results and remember that you’re being strong and fighting temptation for a very good reason. The Liquid Amino Diet is a great tool for this because the results are seen so fast it is easier and exciting to track your progress daily. If you are doing it on your own, take pictures of yourself every week so you can literally see the progress your body is making from overweight to healthy and beautiful. Weigh yourself on a quality, precise scale every few days and write down your weight exactly—even fractions of pounds lost are still proof that you’re getting somewhere. Many of our clients are also measuring their inches lost before, during and after. Because the Liquid Amino Diet burns your excess fat you will be very excited to see the inches melt away.

4. Know from the start that you are actually going to have to change big habits in your life. If you just jump into a diet, expecting to be able to simply force yourself into compliance with all of its guidelines, you’re probably not going to get very far. If you get a strong craving for chips, and you just happen to have a big bag of them in the pantry because you always buy one when you go shopping, then you’re a saint if you manage not to sneak a few. But if you change that habit and not put those chips in the grocery cart as well as any others that might lead to temptation, your path to losing your goal weight is going to be a lot easier.
