Healthy Fats On The Diabetes Program

Healthy fats and DiabetesDespite, what you may think or have been told, healthy fats aren’t going to make you fat.  Bad fats, such as saturated fats and trans fats, are guilty of the unhealthy things that all fats have been blamed for like weight gain, clogged arteries and so forth.

The fact is we all need fats. Fats helps nutrient absorption, nerves transmission, maintaining cell membrane integrity and have powerful cancer fighters.  Good fats such as avocados, olive oil, coconut oil, nuts, nut butters, seeds, flaxseeds and flaxseed oil play a huge role in helping you manage your moods, stay on top of your mental game, fight fatigue, and even help to control your weight. The answer isn’t cutting out the fat- It’s learning to make healthy choices and to replace bad fats with good ones that promote health and well-being.

Consider adding medium chain triglycerides to your diet as well, either for cooking or to boost flavor.  Coconut oil is excellent for this!  These fats will also be used more readily by the body as a fuel source than some other fats, so they are great in that regard as well.  You should always create well-balanced meals that contain a blend of 40% carbohydrates, 30% proteins, and 30% healthy fats.
