Flax Seed Oil and its Benefits

What is flax seed oilFlax seed oil comes from the seeds of the Flax plant or, Linum Usitatissimum, and has been used for thousands of years. It was treasured even back in Roman times and was used by Hippocrates for medicinal uses. Flax seed oil is also commonly known as linseed oil and has a hearty taste.

While on the Liquid Amino Diet, flax seed oil can be used as one of your healthy fat options as it can increase the nutritional value of some foods. When used with certain foods, it helps the essential fatty acids become incorporated into the cell membranes. However, it shouldn’t be used for cooking, only as an addition to foods. It can become harmful when cooked with but can be great in a smoothie or protein shake.

  • Eczema and psoriasis

Make sure you only purchase flax seed oil in black containers which are refrigerated. Buy it in small quantities because it is easily oxidized and rapidly becomes rancid even when refrigerated. It has a shelf life of only a few weeks so be sure to store it in the fridge and keep the lid on tight. You should also minimize its exposure to heat, light, and air.

    i am gonna make whole wheat bread from scratch and was wondering if adding flax seed to the bread does anything for me?

    Flax seed adds lignins (fibers) to breads and, in turn, they can help you to lower your LDL cholesterol. Make sure you ground the flax seeds in a coffee grinder to use some in your bread dough to get the benefits to your cholesterol.
